Detroit Portraits in Iron
In early 2014, I started an artist residency at 555 Gallery and Studios in Detroit run by a group of artists that started in Ann Arbor, where I first got to know them. Their location was on West Vernor Ave. when I had the residency. The building was originally a precinct house which they refurbished into several studios with a central gallery space. Rotating resident artists filled four rows of tiny cells. Shows and events were put on in the gallery space and classes engaged neighborhood students. I came to work with Casey Westbrook in his iron casting workshops.
